NBA Regular Season 1-31-10

Cavaliers vs Clippers (Slo's pick: Cavaliers)
The Cavs should win in a blowout tonight at home against the Clippers.

Pistons vs Magic (Slo's pick: Magic)
The Pistons are worse than the Magic at every position. If they come to play the Magic will have very little trouble disposing of the Pistons tonight in Detroit.

Nets vs 76ers (Slo's pick: 76ers)
I refuse to take the Nets on any night because I'm pretty sure an elementary school team could beat them but tonight I actually think they have a chance. Although they're still losing, they are playing much better.

Raptors vs Pacers (Slo's pick: Raptors)
The Pacers don't have the offense to compete with the Raptors for 48 minutes on most nights.

Rockets vs Suns (Slo's pick: Suns)
If the Suns can get out in transition early and often they will win. The Rockets might stick in it for a quarter or two but they can't run with the Suns for a whole game. Not many teams can.

T'Wolves vs Knicks (Slo's pick: Knicks)
The T'Wolves can't put up points like the Knicks can. If the Knicks make this a fast paced game they'll give themselves a great chance to come out with a win.

Thunder vs Warriors (Slo's pick: Thunder)
If the Thunder play the way they play on an average night they will win this game with little trouble.

NBA Regular Season 1-30-10

Magic vs Hawks (Slo's pick: Hawks)
Both teams are coming off big wins and both of their wins were against the Celtics. I would take the Magic in this game but I can't trust that Dwight Howard will take over like I know he could. In the past I've taken the Magic for that reason and it hasn't worked out.

Wizards vs Knicks (Slo's pick: Knicks)
The Wizards got lucky last night against the Nets, if they play that way tonight (which they probably will) they're going to lose by 20+.

Grizzlies vs Hornets (Slo's pick: Grizzlies)
The Hornets are coming off a heartbreaker last night against the Bulls, now they have to go in and battle with the always energetic and uptempo Grizzlies in Memphis. After going into OT last night I don't think the Hornets are going to have the legs to compete for 48 minutes tonight.

Bucks vs Heat (Slo's pick: Heat)
The Heat are better than the Bucks in just about every way. Despite being on the road the Heat should still win this game with relative ease.

Mavericks vs Trailblazers (Slo's pick: Mavericks)
The Blazers are coming off a loss in Houston, I highly doubt they're going to have the physical and emotional strength to beat the Mavs tonight in Dallas.

Kings vs Bobcats (Slo's pick: Kings)
The Kings match up well with the Bobcats and if they can stay in it early they will win. Young teams like the Kings are always dangerous at home if you let them think they can win.

NBA Regular Season 1-29-10

Hornets vs Bulls (Slo's pick: Bulls)
With the way Derrick Rose is playing right now it would make no sense to pick against the Bulls tonight. On Thursday Rose became the first bull to be selected to the all-star game since the Jordan era.

Hawks vs Celtics (Slo's pick: Hawks)
The Celtics are coming off a tough loss last night in Orlando, going into Atlanta and winning tonight is highly unlikely. The Celtics have trouble with the Hawks to begin with because of their athleticism, but add in the C's dead legs and this is a losing equation for Boston.

Pacers vs Cavaliers (Slo's pick: Cavaliers)
The Pacers would need to get LeBron James in foul trouble early tonight. Generally that doesn't happen since the refs seem to love LeBron with a fiery passion. The Cavs will win big tonight in Indiana.

76ers vs Lakers (Slo's pick: Lakers)
The Lakers should kill the Sixers tonight. There's no reason why they shouldn't win a lot. Also, don't be surprised to see Kobe Bryant put on a show in his hometown.

Pistons vs Heat (Slo's pick: Heat)
The Pistons are starting to struggle again after breaking their 13 game losing streak. I won't be shocked to see another sizable losing streak hit Detroit.

T'Wolves vs Clippers (Slo's pick: Clippers)
The T'Wolves don't match up well with the Clippers. If they execute, the Clippers should win tonight in Minnesota.

Nets vs Wizards (Slo's pick: Wizards)
The Nets finally won on Wednesday pushing their record all the way up to 4-40...that win filled their quota for about a month.

Thunder vs Nuggets (Slo's pick: Nuggets)
In a game like this I'm always tempted to over think, in this case that would mean taking the Thunder. I'm just going to go with the logical choice here and take the Nuggets.

Rockets vs Trailblazers (Slo's pick: Rockets)
The Trailblazers are so horribly inconsistent that I can never trust them to play a good hard game. With the Rockets at least I know what I'm getting.

Spurs vs Grizzlies (Slo's pick: Spurs)
The Spurs have been playing well lately, I never like to pick against a team with momentum.

Jazz vs Kings (Slo's pick: Jazz)
The Jazz are going to destroy the Kings tonight, I'll be somewhat surprised if the Kings can even keep it close.

Warriors vs Bobcats (Slo's pick: Bobcats)
The Bobcats need to start winning again if they want to keep pace with the Bulls. I see the next few games as one level under a must win game.

NBA Regular Season 1-28-10

Magic vs Celtics (Slo's pick: Celtics)
The Celtics are a different, and obviously better team with Kevin Garnett in the lineup. I see the Celtics grabbing a big win tonight in Orlando.

Knicks vs Raptors (Slo's pick: Raptors)
The Raptors are coming off a solid win last night against the Heat. Good teams win back to back games, if the Raptors want to emerge from the pack they need to prove they can win games like this. The best 4 teams in the East are the Cavaliers, Celtics, Magic, and Hawks. But after that the fifth spot is totally up for grabs. The teams in contention after the Hawks are the Raptors, Heat, Bulls, and the Bobcats, with the Knicks and Bucks lurking behind them.

Suns vs Mavericks (Slo's pick: Suns)
The Suns are going to run the Mavs off the floor tonight in Phoenix. The Suns are going to try and beat up Dirk Nowitzki all night and give him a miserable 48 minutes.

Slo's record on the season: 382-197
Slo's record last night: 9-2

NBA regular season 1-27-10

Cavaliers vs T'Wolves (Slo's pick: Cavaliers)
This should be an easy win for the Cavs, the T'Wolves have nowhere near the offensive firepower necessary to compete with the top teams.
Pacers vs Lakers (Slo's pick: Lakers)
This will be an easy win for the Lakers, on a road trip it's always important to take advantage of the games against bad teams.

Raptors vs Heat (Slo's pick: Raptors)
If the Raptors shoot well tonight they're going to come away with the win. However, I won't be the least bit surprised to see the Heat win tonight. This game could go either way.
Pistons vs Grizzlies (Slo's pick: Grizzlies)
The Pistons have somewhat turned it on as of late but they're not going to win tonight. They match up horribly with the Grizzlies and expect Rudy Gay to go off tonight.

Nets vs Clippers (Slo's pick: Clippers)
The Nets are an embarrassment to all professional basketball, both the NBA and the teams overseas.

Bucks vs 76ers (Slo's pick: Bucks)
If the Bucks want to climb back into the playoff race (which they will) they're going to have to beat the teams that they should beat. There is no excuse for losing this game tonight in Milwaukee.
Thunder vs Bulls (Slo's pick: Bulls)
The Bulls are smoking hot right now, although they are currently plagued with the flu they're still beating very good western conference teams on this long road trip. Russel Westbrook got the better of Derrick Rose earlier in the season in Chicago. If Rose plays tonight, I'll be surprised if he's not very aggressive offensively. Rose too is battling with the flu. They key for the Thunder in this game to slow it down and not let Rose get out in transition. If you slow the Bulls down you will beat them.

Rockets vs Nuggets (Slo's pick: Nuggets)
The Nuggets are arguabally playing the best basketball in the league right now, they're going to pick up another win tonight against the always competitive Rockets.

Spurs vs Hawks (Slo's pick: Hawks)
The Spurs' worst nightmare is a team like the Hawks. Not only are they loaded with talent, but they push the ball better than anyone except the Suns. The Hawks will win tonight in San Antonio and I won't be surpised to see them win dominantly.

Trailblazers vs Jazz (Slo's pick: Jazz)
I love the way Deron Williams is playing right now, because of it the Jazz are on a roll and I'm not willing to go against their momentum right now.

Warriors vs Hornets (Slo's pick: Hornets)
The Warriors are playing on back to back nights. I usually don't like to pick teams playing the second half of back to backs against a team coming of one or multiple days off.

NBA Regular Season 1-26-10

Wizards vs Lakers (Slo's pick: Lakers)
The Lakers are going through their first rough patch of the season right now. Tonight is a good time to get an easy win when it seems that every game is a struggle.

Knicks vs T'Wolves (Slo's pick: Knicks)
The Knicks should destroy the T'Wolves tonight at home. Al Harrington is going to pull Al Jefferson out of the paint and in the process open everything up for the guards. I'll be surprised if the Knicks don't win in a blowout.

Mavericks vs Bucks (Slo's pick: Mavericks)
The Bucks have no one who can slow down Dirk Nowitzki. If they try to stick Andrew Bogut on him, which they're probably going to have to, they're going to get burned for 40 points. This will be a fun game to watch.

Suns vs Bobcats (Slo's pick: Suns)
It's kind of a shame that the Bobcats' entire winning streak is being negated right now by their rigorous schedule. They're headed for another loss tonight, this time in the valley of the sun.

Kings vs Wizards (Slo's pick: Kings)
The Kings are struggling immensely right now, I feel a win coming tonight in Sacramento.

Slo's record on the season: 369-194

NBA Regular Season 1-25-10

Spurs vs Bulls (Slo's pick: Bulls)
The Bulls are coming off two very impressive wins. I think there's a very good chance their momentum will carry them to another win tonight.

Celtics vs Clippers (Slo's pick: Celtics)
The Clippers are coming off a win in Washington. I don't see them winning tonight in Boston. Back to back road games are tough enough without playing one of the NBA's top teams.

76ers vs Pacers (Slo's pick: 76ers)
I'm taking the Sixers for no other reason than that I'm really annoyed with the Pacers. They never win when I take them so now I'm going to avoid taking them most of the time.

Heat vs Cavaliers (Slo's pick: Cavaliers)
The Cavs are the best team in the league right now, they're going to win tonight in Miami.

Grizzlies vs Magic (Slo's pick: Magic)
The Magic can punish the Grizzlies all night in the post. I expect them to do just that.

Rockets vs Hawks (Slo's pick: Hawks)
The Rockets are going to drop another home game after losing to the Bulls on Saturday night. The Hawks are going to kill them in transition, this will probably be a close game but the Hawks will win.

Nuggets vs Bobcats (Slo's pick: Nuggets)
The Nuggets should win this one easily. The Bobcats don't have a prayer of stopping Carmelo Anthony. The only way Melo doesn't have a big night is if he gets himself in foul trouble or if she shoots bad. Either way, the Bobcats won't be the ones stopping him.

Jazz vs Suns (Slo's pick: Suns)
This is going to be a big win for the Suns. I think Steve Nash is going to have a huge game and carry his Suns to a win in Utah.

Trailblazers vs Hornets (Slo's pick: Hornets)
The Hornets are going to grab a big win tonight in Portland. I don't know why but I just feel a Hornets victory in this one.

NBA Regular Season 1-23-10

Pacers vs Sixers (Slo's pick: Pacers)
Both teams are coming off wins last night, I'm not taking the Sixers because they're on the road in the second half of back to back games.

Bobcats vs Magic (Slo's pick: Magic)
The Bobcats' six game winning streak came to an end last night in Atlanta. This is a big game for them. Are they going to start up another winning streak, or are they going to wallow in the mire and drift back into mediocrity. I just don't think they're talented enough to keep winning the way they were.

Cavaliers vs Thunder (Slo's pick: Cavaliers)
The Cavs are the best team in the NBA right now, they will win again tonight against the very young and talented Thunder.

Pistons vs Trailblazers (Slo's pick: Pistons)
After losing last night in Boston I have a hard time taking the Blazers. On the other hand, the Pistons are painfully inconsistent. My gut says Pistons so that's who I'm going with.

Heat vs Kings (Slo's pick: Heat)
The Kings are ice cold, this is a great time for the Heat to get a winning streak going heading into the all-star break.

Rockets vs Bulls (Slo's pick: Rockets)
The Bulls are coming off a huge win last night in Phoenix. Derrick Rose was sensational scoring 32 points and throwing down one of the best in-game dunks I've ever seen. As much as I want to, I'm not taking the Bulls tonight in Houston. I just don't think they have enough left in the tank to propel their way to a win tonight.

Bucks vs T'Wolves (Slo's pick: Bucks)
In order to stay in the playoff hunt the Bucks are going to have to take advantage of the games against bad teams. This is one of them.

Nuggets vs Hornets (Slo's pick: Nuggets)
There's no reason to believe the Hornets will win this game tonight in Denver.

Suns vs Warriors (Slo's pick: Suns)
The Suns are going to redeem themselves tonight after a very disappointing loss to the Bulls last night at home.

Jazz vs Nets (Slo's pick: Jazz)
The Jazz are going to win easily tonight at home.

NBA Regular Season 1-22-10

Magic vs Kings (Slo's pick: Magic)
The Kings are struggling badly right now, there is no reason the Magic shouldn't win this game.

76ers vs Mavericks (Slo's pick: Mavericks)
The Sixers would have to play at their very best tonight to keep this one close. I don't see that happening.

Wizards vs Heat (Slo's pick: Heat)
All things considered the Wizards are playing great right now. I still think the Heat will beat them after losing miserably in Charlotte.

Raptors vs Bucks (Slo's pick: Raptors)
The Bucks just beat the Raptors at home in Milwaukee, tonight the Raptors are going to hand the Bucks a loss from Toronto.

Hawks vs Bobcats (Slo's pick: Hawks)
The Hawks are the perfect team to slow down the absolutely smoldering hot Bobcats. A win tonight from the Bobcats would really impress me.

Celtics vs Trailblazers (Slo's pick: Celtics)
At this point it should be very obvious that the Celtics are a much different team without KG. Even still, they're far too talented to keep losing at this rate. I'm picking them basically because they're due for a win.

Pistons vs Pacers (Slo's pick: Pistons)
I expect the suddenly hot Pistons to win in this Central division matchup. The Pistons are trying to fight their way out of the huge whole they've dug for themselves.

T'Wolves vs Hornets (Slo's pick: Hornets)
The Hornets are coming off a huge win at home against the Grizzlies. I expect them to keep the ball rolling tonight in Minnesota.

Knicks vs Lakers (Slo's pick: Lakers)
This is a likely game for Kobe to break out of his slump and go off. He's still getting his points but he's shooting a very bad percentage. He'll get back to normal soon.

Grizzlies vs Thunder (Slo's pick: Thunder)
The Grizzlies are coming off a heartbreaker against the Hornets in New Orleans. They're going to have a tough time sleeping again tonight because the Thunder are well equipped to get a win tonight in Memphis.

Spurs vs Rockets (Slo's pick: Spurs)
I'm taking the Spurs strictly based on a hunch.

Warriors vs Nets (Slo's pick: Warriors)
The Nets would be lucky to beat an elementary school team.

Suns vs Bulls (Slo's pick: Suns)
The Bulls have started off this road trip in the worst way, losing to the two teams they were supposed to beat. Now the schedule gets much harder starting tonight in Phoenix. With the way the Bulls are playing right now and with the flu going around the team there's no way I can pick them.

Cavaliers vs Lakers (Slo's pick: Lakers)
The Lakers were embarrassed by the Cavs on Christmas day. Tonight the Lakers are going to go into Cleveland for payback. I don't think it will be a blowout but the Lakers will win.

Nuggets vs Clippers (Slo's pick: Nuggets)
I'll be shocked if the Nuggets don't demolish the Clippers tonight in Denver.

Slo's record on the season: 347-182

NBA Regular Season 1-20-10

Clippers vs Bulls (Slo's pick: Bulls)
The Bulls are still on the easy half of their long road trip. After last game's sluggish performance Bulls' guard Derrick Rose vowed to come out with more energy tonight. The Bulls are going to get a big win tonight against a team that closely resembles them in style and talent.

Pistons vs Celtics (Slo's pick: Celtics)
The Celtics are going to get this win to stop their mini slide. They've lost two in a row to the Bulls and more recently the Mavericks, both games were in Boston. The Celtics are going to leave Detroit tonight with a win.

Hawks vs Kings (Slo's pick: Hawks)
The Kings are struggling badly right now and as a young team that could spell doom for the rest of their season. They need the leadership to keep the team focused in this tough stretch and keep their eyes on the big picture. Most likely their going to get dismantled tonight in Atlanta.

Magic vs Pacers (Slo's pick: Magic)
The Magic are going to get an easy win tonight against the Pacers who got blown out last night in Miami.

76ers vs Trailblazers (Slo's pick: Trailblazers)
Both of these teams have been killing me all year. I think the Blazers are going to win based on their record in comparison to the Sixers' record. However the Blazers appear to have a personal vendetta against me because they lose every time I pick them.

Wizards vs Mavericks (Slo's pick: Mavericks)
I always have a hard time taking the Wizards because they're so inconsistent. There's no way I can justify taking them tonight over the high powered offense of the Mavericks.

Bobcats vs Heat (Slo's pick: Heat)
The Bobcats are ripe for a loss, they're not good enough to keep winning at this clip. Someone's going to beat them soon, why not the Heat?

Hornets vs Grizzlies (Slo's pick: Grizzlies)
Before the season I felt that the Grizzlies were talented enough to contend for a playoff spot in the West. They went through a rough start but now they're playing like I knew they could, I expect them to keep winning. This game would be a huge win against a team who's likely to be another contender to that 8th and final playoff spot.

Bucks vs Raptors (Slo's pick: Bucks)
If Brandon Jennings plays well the Bucks will win. If I was coach Skiles I would be going to Andrew Bogut in the paint all night. Chris Bosh is not a well disciplined defender, Bogut can get him in foul trouble easily.

T'Wolves vs Thunder (Slo's pick: Thunder)
The Thunder are going to win in a blowout tonight. Games like this are good because it allows you to rest your best players. Most people don't really understand how much of a grind being a professional athlete is. If you play in Chicago one night and then you have to play in LA the next night, you're going to be very tired. That's what these players have to go through for at least 82 games a year.

Suns vs Nets (Slo's pick: Suns)
Suns. No question.

Spurs vs Jazz (Slo's pick: Jazz)
The Jazz are starting to emerge as a serious threat in the Western Conference. This would be a great statement win on the road in San Antonio. The reason why I think the Jazz are going to win is because they can run on the Spurs as much as they want. If they want this game bad enough they will win.

Warriors vs Nuggets (Slo's pick: Nuggets)
The Warriors are coming off a good win against what at the time was a streaking Bulls team. I hope they enjoyed it because tonight they're going to lose badly to the Nuggets. The Nuggets have established themselves as the second best team in the Western Conference and I don't see them dropping lower than second for the rest of the season.

NBA Regular Season 1-19-10

Cavaliers vs Raptors (Slo's pick: Cavaliers)
Running away with the Eastern Conference, the Cavs should get this win tonight at home.

Heat vs Pacers (Slo's pick: Heat)
The Heat are slowly disintegrating into sub .500 team. If they want to stay atop the border these are the games they need to make up for the losses against the good teams.

Slo's record on the season: 336-178
Slo's record last night: 7-5

Sunday, January 17, 2010

NBA Regular Season 1-18-10

Warriors vs Bulls (Slo's pick: Bulls)
The last time the Bulls went on a western road trip they fell to the bottom of the Eastern Conference, this time I don't see it going quite as badly. They're going to start the trip off right tomorrow afternoon with a win over the 11-27 Warriors. The Bulls are going to need to get the easy wins on this trip to make up for the games they could lose to the better teams like the Suns.

Celtics vs Mavericks (Slo's pick: Celtics)
The Celtics are coming off a tough loss to the Bulls. At this point it's safe to say the Kevin Garnett is what makes that team tick. With Garnett the Celtics beat the Bulls by 30, without him they lose by 13. I think that at this point a win against a good team would be big for the Celtics. I think
Paul Pierce is going to carry them until Garnett returns to the lineup. Slowly but surely the Cavs are starting to pull away with the top seed in the Eastern Conference.

Knicks vs Pistons (Slo's pick: Knicks)
On Saturday night the Pistons beat the Knicks at home. Tonight the Knicks are going to return the favor.

Wizards vs Trailblazers (Slo's pick: Trailblazers)
The Blazers are going to go into Washington and hand the Wizards a beating. It's that simple. If the Blazers don't win this game they have no one to blame other than themselves.

Hawks vs Thunder (Slo's pick: Hawks)
I want to take the Thunder in this game but I think the Hawks are going to come in with more energy. In order to stay in contention for the number one seed in the East the Hawks are going to have to put together a winning streak long enough to outlast the Cavs' winning streak.

Bobcats vs Kings (Slo's pick: Bobcats)
The Bobcats are smoking hot right now and they have on of the best home records in the league at 16-4. They should win this game with relative ease over a struggling Kings team in the midst of a road trip.

Rockets vs Bucks (Slo's pick: Rockets)
The Rockets should win this game at home. I have a hard time seeing the Bucks go into Houston and get this win, especially when Brandon Jennings hasn't been scoring efficiently at all. He's still getting his points but he's taking a ton of shots to get them.

Hornets vs Spurs (Slo's pick: Spurs)
The Spurs are starting to give me gray hairs. Sometimes they're the Spurs of old, sometimes they're the Spurs who are old. The Hornets don't run well which is why I'm taking the Spurs in this game. If I was the Spurs GM I would seriously consider making a bold move this offseason. On one hand you want to stay loyal to the guys who carried your franchise over the last decade. But at the same time you don't want to throw away the next decade because you refuse to make big changes. It's a very tough situation in San Antonio right now.

Clippers vs Nets (Slo's pick: Clippers)
I think I might consider taking a d-league team over the Nets at this point. If they don't get LeBron James this offseason, then I feel really bad for the ownership because they're going to be run out of town by an angry mob.

T'Wolves vs 76ers (Slo's pick: T'Wolves)
The T'Wolves are going to have to play well tonight to beat the Sixers. The reason why I'm taking them is because I think that if they slow it down they will get whatever they want inside.

Grizzlies vs Suns (Slo's pick: Suns)
The Grizzlies are going to try to run with the Suns which is a risky strategy. It's not going to pay off for them as the Suns are going to win in a very high scoring game.

Lakers vs Magic (Slo's pick: Lakers)
The Lakers are going to win in a rematch of last year's finals. I think we're in for a big game from Kobe Bryant. He's bound to go off soon because he hasn't had a huge game for awhile now.

Slo's record on the season: 329-173
Slo's record last night: 1-0

NBA Regular Season 1-17-10

Nuggets vs Jazz (Slo's pick: Nuggets)
The Nuggets will win behind the energy of their home crowd. I think they're going to win in a tight game against a Jazz team who's playing their best basketball all season.

Slo's record on the season: 328-173

NBA Regular Season 1-16-10

Pacers vs Hornets (Slo's pick: Hornets)
The Hornets are coming of an overtime loss last night in Detroit. I expect them to bounce back with a win tonight in Indiana.

Wizards vs Kings (Slo's pick: Kings)
Both teams are coming off losses last night. However the Wizards are coming off a double overtime loss to the Bulls in Chicago. I think the Kings will take advantage of the Wizards' tired legs with a win.

Suns vs Bobcats (Slo's pick: Suns)
The Suns are coming off a loss on a lucky last second three from Jamal Crawford. I think they're going to derail the currently smoking hot Bobcats in Charlotte.

Pistons vs Knicks (Slo's pick: Pistons)
Last night's win was the Pistons' first win in over a month. I think they're going to make it two straight tonight against the Knicks.

Thunder vs Heat (Slo's pick: Thunder)
The Heat are going to have a nightmare trying to contain Kevin Durant. The Thunder will win tonight in Miami.

Grizzlies vs Spurs (Slo's pick: Grizzlies)
Much like last night's game against the T'Wolves, if the Grizzlies keep this a fast paced game they will beat the Spurs who are on the road for the second time in two nights.

Jazz vs Bucks (Slo's pick: Jazz)
The Jazz are coming off a solid win last night in Golden State. I hope they enjoyed it because tonight they're going to get destroyed in Utah.

Clippers vs Cavaliers (Slo's pick: Cavaliers)
The Cavs are going to win easily tonight in LA. I'll be surprised to see the Clippers still in the game by the third quarter.

Slo's record on the season: 322-171
Slo's record last night: 9-4

NBA Regular Season 1-15-10

Bulls vs Wizards (Slo's pick: Bulls)
Although they probably have dead legs from beating the Celtics last night in Boston. I still see the Bulls winning this game.

76ers vs Kings (Slo's pick: Kings)
The Kings are a much better team than their record indicates. Their record is the way it is only because of how rigorous their schedule has been over the last month. In my opinion, if they were moved to the Eastern Conference they would be in the playoff picture.

Spurs vs Bobcats (Slo's pick: Spurs)
I have no choice but to take the Spurs in this game. I can't think of any logical reason not to.

Hawks vs Suns (Slo's pick: Hawks)
Unlike most teams the Hawks can play the Suns' style and still win. With the energy of their home crowd I think the Hawks are coming away with a win tonight.

Pistons vs Hornets (Slo's pick: Hornets)
The Pistons haven't won a game since December 12th. They're due for a win, I think it's going to come tonight. I originally took the Hornets in this game but my gut was screaming Pistons. I'm always interested to see if my gut is right.

Nets vs Pacers (Slo's pick: Pacers)
There is a really good chance that I won't pick the Nets in any game for the rest of the season. With their 3-35 record I think the odds are in my favor.

Raptors vs Knicks (Slo's pick: Raptors)
Chris Bosh is going to be a huge matchup problem for this Knicks team. I see Bosh going off in a Raptors road win.

Grizzlies vs T'Wolves (Slo's pick: Grizzlies)
If the Grizzlies keep this a fast paced game they will win in a blowout. The T'Wolves might be able to run with them for 8-12 minutes. But not much longer than that.

Mavericks vs Thunder (Slo's pick: Mavericks)
Winning this game would be a huge statement for the Thunder. I just don't see how their going to stop Dirk Nowitzki. With the home crowd behind him Nowitzki is going to carry his Mavs to a win.

Rockets vs Heat (Slo's pick: Rockets)
The Rockets have too many offensive weapons for this struggling Heat team to contend with. Granted, none of them are all-star caliber players. But there's enough of them to make up for it. The Rockets' balanced attack is going to lead them to a win tonight at home.

Warriors vs Bucks (Slo's pick: Bucks)
If the Bucks can keep this a half court game they're going to win. It wouldn't hurt if Brandon Jennings woke up. He's now shooting under 40% on the season which is terrible for a guard who's expected to score. If they let the Warriors get out on the break the Bucks are going to get killed.

Lakers vs Clippers (Slo's pick: Lakers)
Last time these teams played the Clippers won. I don't see that happening again. There's really no home team in this game since both teams play out of the Staples Center. I think Kobe Bryant is going to have an offensive explosion in a Lakers win.

Trailblazers vs Magic (Slo's pick: Magic)
Big time players play well in big time games. This is a huge game for the lately inconsistent Magic. A couple solid wins would give them some stability which they are desperate for right now. Obviously their record is still great, but they've dropped to the third spot in the East. I think Dwight Howard's going to have a solid game as his team picks up the win.

Red Auerbach is Rolling Over in His Grave

I just came back from the Celtics vs Bulls game in the TD Bank Garden. I was disturbed at what I saw. Not on the floor, but in the crowd and on the scoreboard.

The focus throughout the entire night wasn't on the players, but on the scoreboard. People did whatever they could to be seen by all.

There were even 5 year old girls dancing in an incredibly suggestive way, it was borderline disturbing.

In Red's day basketball was a game, unfortunately now it's a circus. The NBA has made a very strong effort to reach out to local communities, specifically the young children. I don't understand why to be completely honest. If the kid likes basketball in any way he'll be entertained. I don't want to see Lucky the leprechaun dancing around in a gold vest and kilt. And I know for a fact that a lot of other people feel the same way.

Ever since Ron Artest ran into the crowd at the Palace of Auburn Hills (Detroit) and fought someone who had thrown a beer at him, the NBA has done everything possible to reach out to the fans. Which is great and totally understandable. But what isn't understandable is when I'm watching some dancing 57 year old man who looks like Santa, rather than the replay of Derrick Rose's last drive.

I've always liked the halftime show, because it always actually had something to do with basketball. They used to do some competition like who can run the length of the floor and make a layup within 5 seconds or something like that. Now there's a bunch of random people dancing. One time I saw dogs out on the floor racing in Celtics jerseys. I don't think I have to explain how ridiculous that is.

This is a basketball game, not a broadway show. If you're going to the game for the scoreboard opportunities then in my opinion you shouldn't be there. I understand how the NBA wants to maximize profit but where do you draw the line?

I feel like one of those old angry guys who hang out in Dunkin' Donuts all day, most younger people don't mind all the foolishness in the arena, some even like it. I just feel that it's disrespectful to the game of basketball in every way. It's disrespectful to the players, coaches, refs, and fans who actually want to watch what's happening on the floor.

It seems like they're a dying breed.

I've been to many games in my lifetime, and never have I seen so much distraction from the game than tonight. It honestly made me sick.

NBA Regular Season 1-13-10

Nets vs Celtics (Slo's pick: Celtics)
Picking the Nets would make me legally insane.

Hawks vs Wizards (Slo's pick: Hawks)
I have a hard time seeing the Wizards making this close tonight, the Hawks will win in a blowout.

Pacers vs Suns (Slo's pick: Suns)
The Suns will wipe the Pacers all over their own floor. I expect the Suns to win big tonight in Indiana.

76ers vs Knicks (Slo's pick: 76ers)
I'm picking the Sixers only because they're home, the key for the Sixers in this game is to keep Al Harrington contained. If he gets hot the Sixers are in trouble. Once he gets going he's very tough to stop.

Hornets vs Clippers (Slo's pick: Hornets)
The Hornets are an impressive 14-3 at home this season, I don't see the Clippers disrupting the Hornets hot streak tonight.

Thunder vs Spurs (Slo's pick: Thunder)
The Spurs are playing the second half of back to back games tonight, the Thunder should take advantage by pushing the ball up the floor as much as possible. If they do that a win is coming their way. Not only are the Spurs' legs old, but now they are also tired. That's never a good combination.

Mavericks vs Lakers (Slo's pick: Lakers)
Kobe has had two bad games in a row. I won't be surprised to see him go off for 50 tonight in Dallas. Right now Kobe is listed as day to day. I'm putting my trust in his warrior like mentality when picking the Lakers. I think he's probably going to try and play through it in a statement game like this.

Rockets vs T'Wolves (Slo's pick: Rockets)
There's no way in the world I'm taking an 8 win team over the pretty good Rockets. The Rockets should win this game comfortably tonight at home.

Nuggets vs Magic (Slo's pick: Nuggets)
Big game. I'm picking the Nuggets because of the lift they get from their home crowd. However I won't be the least bit surprised to see Dwight Howard bull his way to a win tonight for the Magic.

Trailblazers vs Bucks (Slo's pick: Trailblazers)
The Blazers are better, and home. Therefore common sense tells me that they are going to win. This would have been a no brainer but the inconsistency of the Blazers scares me.

Warriors vs Heat (Slo's pick: Heat)
The Warriors match up well with the Heat, I still don't see them coming away with a win tonight.

A Rose Budding Before Our Eyes

Bulls' guard Derrick Rose showed his NBA potential last season when he won rookie of the year, led his team to the playoffs, and almost knocked off the defending champions in the most thrilling playoff series ever. Right now we're starting to see what Derrick Rose is going to become.

As of now his numbers are 18.6 PPG, 5.8 APG, and 3.5 RPG.

It's important to know how deceiving those numbers are.

If you take out Rose's bad start which was caused by a nagging right ankle injury his numbers are: 20.8 PPG, 6.2 APG, and 3.6 RPG. With those numbers I'm taking out Rose's first ten games. He continued playing limited minutes for a couple more weeks after that. Despite his previously impressive numbers, it's his latest work that's turning heads.

Since December 17th Rose has been starting to put up big time numbers. 24.3 PPG, and 6.5 APG. I fully expect his production to keep rising.

After last season many predicted that Rose had superstar potential, however his slow start this year scared some people off. Many sportswriters went as far as to retract their statements about Rose and several felt as though he may have already reached his potential. Well right now they're eating their words as Rose has carried his Bulls from the bottom of the Eastern Conference back to the playoff picture. It's not just his numbers rising that makes me think he's going to become a superstar. It's his fourth quarter production that is really impressing me.

In the last month Rose has been dominating in the fourth quarter. Even when the Bulls lose Rose still keeps them or gets them in the game. With about 7:00 minutes left defenses start to key in on him, yet he still scores at will. That's what a superstar does. He's making his teammates better and he's beginning to deliver in the clutch as well. He hasn't hit the big buzzer beater yet but he makes game winning or game clinching shots a lot. Sometimes people don't understand that a game winner doesn't necessarily come in the last 4 seconds. Sometimes a game winner is made on the defensive side. Take game 6 of last year's Bulls vs. Celtics playoff series for example. In triple overtime Rose stuffed Rondo's fallaway jumper to force a game seven. That's just as good if not better than a game winning three.

We haven't even reached the halfway point of Rose's sophomore season and he's already in the argument for the top 3 point guards in the league. Chris Paul and Deron Williams are the obvious top two, but who comes next is a heavily debated topic. Those in the conversation are Celtics' point guard Rajon Rondo, Nuggets' point guard Chauncey Billups, Suns' point guard Steve Nash, and of course Bulls' point guard Derrick Rose.

Rondo gets a ton of credit he doesn't deserve. He plays with the best team in the league and some of the league's best shooters. It's a lot easier to get an assist when you're kicking it out to Ray Allen or Eddie House than to John Salmons who's currently shooting 39% from the floor and 35% from the three point line. It's not Rondo's fault that he has such dangerous weapons, it just makes the game much easier for him. When Rose crosses half court he is usually met by a double team. Rondo barely even gets defended. Teams are so concerned with Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, and whichever sharpshooter is off the bench at that time that Rondo gets open looks all game. That's where his point come from, not from superior scoring ability. If Rondo faced the pressure or had the teammates that Rose has, his numbers would be nowhere near as high as they are.

Chauncey Billups is a great point guard, but he's no longer a player who's going to single handedly carry a team. He's the smartest point guard in the NBA and he ties his Nuggets together. But take away his good teammates and put him on the Hornets and he does nothing.

Steve Nash is starting to deteriorate in heart breaking fashion. All of a sudden he can't run and push the tempo of the game like he used to. For that reason he's not quite at the level of the very top point guards anymore. Don't misunderstand, Nash is still a fantastic point guard, he's just not the best of the best anymore.

Right now the top point guards in the NBA today are as follows.

1. Chris Paul
2. Deron Williams
3. Derrick Rose
4. Rajon Rondo
5. Chauncey Billups
6. Steve Nash
7. Devin Harris/Russell Westbrook

As time goes on Rose is just going to further cement his right to be mentioned with the top tier point guards of the NBA.

Unfortunately we live in a world where Allen Iverson is still voted into the All-Star game so I have completely disregarded the All-Star game as the definition for having an All-Star status. An All-Star is someone who can go toe to toe with anyone else of his position in the league and either hold his own or win. Rose fits that criteria.

I have mentioned numbers a lot, I'm well aware that numbers don't tell the full story and that someone can be a great player without huge numbers. The only reason they're here is to help prove my point of how much and how fast Rose is improving.

I'm sure there will be a few more bumps in the road for Rose on his way to becoming a dominant player but this last month and a half let me see that it's definitely going to happen. Before I was thinking it could happen, now I know it will. Barring some tragic injury I think Rose will be the best point guard in the NBA by his fourth season.

If you disagree with me that Rose is one of the best three point guards in the league then ask yourself this question. At this point in time, what point guard would you rather have?

NBA Regular Season 1-8-10

Bucks vs Bulls (Slo's pick: Bulls)
The Bulls are going to win this game as long as they can keep Carlos Delfino under wraps. He's the X factor in this game, if the Bulls let him get hot they will lose. If not, Derrick Rose will carry them to a rare road win as he continues to make his strong case for an all-star spot.

Hawks vs Celtics (Slo's pick: Hawks)
Without Kevin Garnett to anchor the defense the Celtics are headed for a loss in the ATL. I see the Hawks winning this game as long as they keep it a fast paced game. If they can get Rajon Rondo in foul trouble, it will be an easy win.

76ers vs Raptors (Slo's pick: Raptors)
The Raptors are coming off a big win Wednesday night in Orlando, I expect them to ride that momentum to a win tonight in Philadelphia.

Wizards vs Magic (Slo's pick: Magic)
There is no reason to believe the Wizards will even put up a strong fight in this game. I see the Magic winning this game dominantly.

Hornets vs Nets (Slo's pick: Hornets)
The Nets are 3-32, I would be certifiably insane to pick them in this game. Could they win? Yes. Are they likely to win? There's a better chance of Larry Bird making a comeback.

T'Wolves vs Pacers (Slo's pick: T'Wolves)
Although the Pacers are better, the T'Wolves match up well with them and they're home. I think they will pull this one out tonight in Minnesota.

Grizzlies vs Jazz (Slo's pick: Jazz)
The Grizzlies are well equipped to handle a team like the Jazz, the only problem is they won't. Despite their quick guards, the Jazz are still going to outsmart and outlast the Grizzlies in this game.

Spurs vs Mavericks (Slo's pick: Mavericks)
The Mavs are going to go into to San Antonio tonight and come out with a win. The Mavs are good at controlling the pace of the game, if they keep this a fast paced game they will win. The Spurs can't run with anybody, that's one of the hazards of having an old but good team.

Suns vs Heat (Slo's pick: Suns)
The Suns are going to run all over the confidence ridden Heat. They will win tonight at home.

Trailblazers vs Lakers (Slo's pick: Lakers)
The Lakers are coming off a disappointing loss to the city rival Clippers. I expect them to follow up that poor performance with a win tonight in Portland.

Nuggets vs Cavaliers (Slo's pick: Cavaliers)
Without Chauncey Billups the Nuggets are a different team. I expect them to keep struggling in his absence.

Warriors vs Kings (Slo's pick: Kings)
I usually try to shy away from picking inexperienced teams on the road but I just love the way Tyreke Evans plays. I'm somewhat betting with my heart here but I think the Kings are getting the win tonight on the road.

NBA Regular Season 1-7-10

Knicks vs Bobcats (Slo's pick: Knicks)
The Bobcats are 3-14 on the road this season and for that reason I'm taking the Knicks. However the Bobcats were my original choice because they're the better overall team. I often shoot myself in the foot when I second guess myself. I'm interested to see if that happens again.

Slo's record on the season: 299-157

NBA Regular Season 1-6-10

Heat vs Celtics (Slo's pick: Celtics)
Paul Pierce is expected to return tonight for the first time in six games. However Rajon Rondo's injury status is questionable and Kevin Garnett is out. Even if Rondo doesn't play the Celtics are still headed for a win. Pierce and Ray Allen are enough to carry the Celtics past a mediocre Heat team.

Hawks vs Nets (Slo's pick: Hawks)
The Hawks are going to win in a blowout. I'll be stunned to see the Nets win this game. If by some miracle they do, I will question everything I know about life.

Cavaliers vs Wizards (Slo's pick: Cavaliers)
Wizards' guard Gilbert Arenas was suspended indefinitely by the NBA for bringing firearms into an NBA locker room. The announcement was made this morning. The Wizards were a bad team with Arenas, now they're going to be a terrible team. Especially with trade rumors concerning star forward Caron Butler. Right now their team chemistry must be at an all time low.

Magic vs Raptors (Slo's pick: Magic)
The Raptors have no one to battle with Dwight Howard down low. The Magic will muscle their way to a win tonight at home.

T'Wolves vs Warriors (Slo's pick: Warriors)
The Warriors are much more athletic than the T'Wolves and for that reason they will win tonight. The only problem they may run into is if the T'Wolves are able to make this a slow paced game. If the Warriors are unable to dictate the pace of the game they're definitely going to lose because Al Jefferson will dominate on both ends of the floor. I'm willing to bet that they are going to get out in transition early with their prime time scorer Monta Ellis.

Thunder vs Hornets (Slo's pick: Thunder)
The Thunder are for real this year, I would go as far as to say that they could contend for the conference crown if they were in the East. They will beat the Hornets tonight at home.

Spurs vs Pistons (Slo's pick: Spurs)
The Pistons are ice cold right now, losers of their last 10 games. I can't justify picking them until they can prove that they can beat somebody, It's not just good teams they're losing to either, last tuesday they got blown out by the Knicks at home. They have been injury ridden so far this season as Ben Gordon, Richard Hamilton, and Tayshaun Prince have all missed significant time due to injury. Now that they're all healthy they should start winning some games. But they're still not going to be that good. Don't expect them to make any noise this season.

Suns vs Rockets (Slo's pick: Suns)
The Suns should destroy the Rockets tonight in the desert. They can run them off the floor any night. This would be a very disappointing loss in the valley of the sun.

Jazz vs Grizzlies (Slo's pick: Jazz)
As I predicted the Grizzlies have somewhat turned around their previously dreadful season and have crossed the .500 threshold. Unfortunately they're not quite good enough yet to pick them against a team like the Jazz. I would look for Deron Williams to have a big night tonight going against the far inferior Mike Conley.

Clippers vs Lakers (Slo's pick: Lakers)
This is a home game for the Lakers although Clippers' colors will be out. Both teams play out of the Staples Center and unfortunately for the Clippers no one cares about them. The Lakers should win convincingly tonight.

NBA Regular Season 1-4-10

Bulls vs Thunder (Slo's pick: Bulls)
When a team is hot like the Bulls are, and home. Picking them is a no brainer, I'm going to pick them until they lose. Right now the Bulls are riding a four game winning streak on the back of Derrick Rose who is playing as well as any point guard in the league lately.

Heat vs Hawks (Slo's pick: Hawks)
The Hawks are trying to establish themselves as a powerhouse in the East, in order to do that they need to take care of a game like this. In order to be mentioned in the same breath as Boston, Cleveland, and Orlando. Beating teams similar to the Heat needs to become a routine.

Jazz vs Hornets (Slo's pick: Jazz)
If you're not bust Monday night make sure to tune in to this point guard battle between Chris Paul and Deron Williams. Paul is the better of the two, unfortunately the same can't be said for his team. The Jazz should take this one tonight at home.

Clippers vs Trailblazers (Slo's pick:Trailblazers)
Lately the Blazers have been my biggest enemy. They are more inconsistent than any team in the league and that causes for great difficulty when picking them. I'm taking them tonight and hoping that they play as they are capable of playing.

NBA Regular Season 1-3-10

Cavaliers vs Bobcats (Slo's pick: Cavaliers)
The Cavs should destroy the Bobcats tonight at home, there is no excuse for the Cavs not to win this game.

Knicks vs Pacers (Slo's pick: Knicks)
The Pacers are playing their second game in two nights. It's almost never smart to take a bad team when they're playing on the road for the second half of back to back games.

Raptors vs Spurs (Slo's pick: Spurs)
Both teams are playing the second half of back to back games. This game could go either way, in a game like that. I'll always take the team with more experience.

Nuggets vs 76ers (Slo's pick: Nuggets)
Last night the Nuggets beat the Jazz without neither Chauncey Billups nor Carmelo Anthony. There's no reason to believe they can't do it again, this time against a team far inferior to the Jazz. However, hopefully they will be returning to the lineup soon as they have both been listen as day to day for a while now.

Lakers vs Mavericks (Slo's pick: Lakers)
This is going to be a great game, I think Kobe Bryant is going to take over somewhere around the 4:00 minute mark in the third quarter and carry his Lakers to a win.

Slo's record on the season: 290-147

NBA Regular Season 1-2-10

Bulls vs Magic (Slo's pick: Magic)
As of late the Bulls have been playing very well, winning their last three games. Derrick Rose is making big strides into becoming one of the league's major stars and Joakim Noah has proven that he can rebound with the best of them. Despite the fact that the Magic are in Chicago tonight after being in Minnesota last night, they are still headed for a win. The Bulls' only hope of containing Dwight Howard is to get him in foul trouble early. That won't happen though because the Bulls have no big man to challenge Howard and get fouls on him. I'll be delighted to see the Bulls win this game but picking them would be a very stupid decision. There is no logical reason to believe the Bulls will win this game. They might, any team can beat any other team on any given night. But the chance of the Bulls winning to just too slim.

Celtics vs Raptors (Slo's pick: Raptors)
The Celtics are without Kevin Garnett, Rajon Rondo, and Paul Pierce for this game and therefore they will lose barring a 55 point outburst from Ray Allen.

Nets vs Cavaliers (Slo's pick: Cavaliers)
If the Nets win this game, Jay-Z is going to dance his way to the Cavs' locker room and hand LeBron James his new jersey. No pun intended.

Heat vs Bobcats (Slo's pick: Heat)
The Heat have been struggling lately. A home game against a middle of the pack team is exactly what they need right now. The Heat are going to try and get their season back on track tonight at home against the Bobcats.

Pacers vs T'Wolves (Slo's pick: Pacers)
The one and only reason I'm taking the Pacers is because they're home.

Wizards vs Spurs (Slo's pick: Spurs)
I'll be shocked if Gilbert Arenas is allowed to play tonight because of his latest debacle with a teammate in which both players drew guns on each other over a gambling debt. Without Arenas, there is a very little chance of the Wizards beating the Spurs tonight.

Hornets vs Rockets (Slo's pick: Hornets)
The Rockets played last night and are now in New Orleans to play a team that scores points in bunches. That equation equals a Hornets win.

Bucks vs Thunder (Slo's pick: Thunder)
The Thunder are a much better and deeper team. I'll be surprised to see the Bucks win this game.

Suns vs Grizzlies (Slo's pick: Suns)
The Suns should run the Grizzlies out of Phoenix in this game. The Grizzlies are almost definitely going to be leaving the desert with a loss.

Jazz vs Nuggets (Slo's pick: Jazz)
Both Carmelo Anthony and Chauncey Billups are questionable for this game. Because of that taking the Nuggets making a big gamble. A gamble I'm not willing to make.

Trailblazers vs Warriors (Slo's pick: Trailblazers)
This game is very hard to pick because both teams are aggravatingly inconsistent. I'm taking the Blazers in hopes that Brandon Roy will be enough to carry the Blazers to a win.

Kings vs Mavericks (Slo's pick: Mavericks)
Last night the Kings lost a heartbreaker as Kobe Bryant hit a game winning three as time expired. Games like that can be poison to a team with no veteran presence. I have a hard time seeing the Kings take down the Mavs tonight.

Slo's record on the season: 284-141
Slo's record last night: 2-1

NBA Regular Season 1-1-10

Hawks vs Knicks (Slo's pick: Hawks)
At home, this should be an easy win for the Hawks and a great opportunity to give the starters some rest at this point in the season.

T'Wolves vs Magic (Slo's pick: Magic)
Oddly enough the T'Wolves match up pretty well with this Eastern conference powerhouse. Still, I can't justify taking a 7-26 team over the second best team in the East. The Magic should win in a blowout.

Lakers vs Kings (Slo's pick: Lakers)
If the Lakers execute they will win without breaking a sweat.

Slo's record on the season: 282-140
Slo's record last night: 4-1
